I'm excited to share another 3D design project with you, this time featuring Gir from Invader Zim. To learn more about how I created this model, be sure to watch this video: https://youtu.be/1gY-GS2yxPI. This week, we're going back in time a decade and bringing Gir to life. I've included two files for you to download - one with just the Gir model and another with tree supports added using MeshMixer. I designed this model using Fusion 360, with the goal of printing it in a single piece that requires minimal supports. To achieve this, I carefully positioned Gir's design to minimize the need for supports. However, I did add supports in MeshMixer to try out their new tree support feature. While it worked relatively well, there was some artifacting that I would have preferred to avoid. Despite this, I'm excited to share the details of my 3D printing process with you. I printed Gir on my Robo 3D R1 using Hatchbox White PLA filament. Here are the print settings I used: Layer Height: 0.3mm, Infill: 20%, Supports: Yes, Raft: No. To post-process my print, I followed these steps: First, I sanded and filed any rough spots to smooth out Gir's surface. Next, I applied a few coats of plastic primer, allowing each coat to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Then, I painted the gray/silver areas using Krylon Hammered Metal spray paint. I applied multiple coats, letting each one dry before adding more. Finally, I used water-based acrylic paint and a brush to add details such as Gir's teal-colored eyes and joints, as well as the black on his mouth.
