This rug was designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti for his private home in Milan back in 1954. Gio Ponti, an iconic Italian architect, is renowned worldwide for his extraordinary architecture and impressive furniture designs. Born on November 18, 1891, in Milan, Italy, he was also a gifted designer and essayist, making significant contributions to the world of architecture throughout the twentieth century. The homes located at Via Randaccio in 1925, Casa Laporte on Via Brin in 1926, and another home built at Via Dezza in 1957 exemplify Ponti's ingenious ideas for modern living spaces. This innovative designer was an enthusiastic promoter of industrial design, paving the way for more accessible, sophisticated, economic, and modern furniture pieces that would eventually become the standard for interior decorating ranges. The partnership between Molteni&C and the heirs of Gio Ponti enabled them to reissue his carefully designed furniture pieces and furnishings in a special collection dedicated to the architectural concepts used throughout these private homes and exclusive editions. This incredible journey started years ago with extensive research, selection, and testing of prototypes until finally making their public debut at the 2012 Salone del Mobile thanks to the creative work and shared vision of Cerri & Associati Studio's artistic director in cooperation with the Ponti heirs.
