Introducing the 3D Printed Gingerbread Stave Church! Check out this amazing video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6eZp_2E8tY This project was all about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with additive manufacturing - taking a classic gingerbread house and turning it into a stave church that stands upright. Traditional gingerbread houses are made flat, then baked and assembled later. But I wanted to do something different, so I set out to create a custom dough that could hold its shape without collapsing. The biggest challenge was finding the right recipe for the dough, as standard gingerbread dough doesn't hold up well on its own. To overcome this, I spent time experimenting with different ingredients and modifying my printer to work with liquid-based materials. The printer I used is a WASP 2040 delta with a special LDM extruder (Liquid Deposition Modeling) that can handle liquids. The printing process involves two key steps: first, the liquid material is pressed into the extruder under 4.5 bar pressure; then it's fed through the nozzle using a mechanical screw. To speed up the drying time of the dough, I added a heater block to the nozzle, which heats it to a precise 85 degrees Celsius. Here are my print settings: Printer: WASP 2040 LDM mode Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 1mm layer thickness Infill: 0 (infill is included in the STL file) Notes: For this project, I printed using a modified WASP 2040 delta printer in LDM mode. The extruder has been adapted with a heater block that provides 85 degrees Celsius to the nozzle. Here's my custom gingerbread dough recipe: Syrup: 210g Sugar: 170g Butter: 80g Cinnamon: 2 tablespoons Cloves: 1 tablespoon Ginger: 2 tablespoons Flour (type 0): 600g Eggs: 3 Sunflower oil: 30g Maizena: 200g Vodka: 100ml After printing, I get to decorate my stave church with icing - for now, by hand!
