'Gimbal' Pi Camera-LEGO-MakerBeam rail mount
thingiverse
As shown, this item is designed to create a LEGO-based Pi camera mount that attaches securely to a MakerBeam rail. The adaptor for the LEGO brick snaps onto a small MakerBeam rail (available at https://www.makerbeam.com/makerbeam/beams/). The Pi camera mount accepts a 1x2 "gimbal" LEGO piece, which can be sourced from a local LEGO store or online marketplaces like eBay (search for "small towball and socket lego"). Printed parts were created using a Printrbot Simple Maker 1405 with standard settings. However, some trimming and pressing were required to attach the real Lego brick firmly in place. It is likely that using a Prusa i3MK2 would have resulted in a better fit and easier removal/replacement of bricks. Similarly, the camera mount required some effort to attach due to its tight fit. X-acto tools and gentle heat can help facilitate the attachment process, or glue/epoxy can also be used effectively. The model will be updated once time permits. To secure the Pi Camera (designed for version 2 but compatible with version 1 as well), >=5mm M2 screws are recommended for a reliable hold.
