I recently acquired an old Gilson Minipuls Peristaltic pump at a bargain price, despite its dented appearance and being sold "for parts." Thankfully, the motor was still functional, and the pump head was included. However, upon closer inspection of the sale photos, I noticed that the plastic component responsible for transmitting torque was damaged, and it wasn't even present in the package when it arrived. Following a thorough analysis using metrology tools and computer-aided design (CAD), I successfully created a replacement part and put it to the test. The new part was printed from PLA, which served its purpose for testing purposes, but I plan to switch to carbon-filled nylon for mass production. According to the user manual, regular maintenance involves applying grease during operation, so I'm considering using oil-resistant, low-friction nylon as a suitable alternative material.
