New Zealand's ancient land snails, contemporaries of native frogs and tuataras, were once widespread but now face endangerment. Part of "Ghosts in the Form of Gifts," a 2009 Massey University Wellington art project by Bronwyn Holloway-Smith and Vik Olliver, the series won the 2010 Award for Open Source in the Arts (NZ). The project involves replicas of imagined lost New Zealand Museum artifacts, created through drawing, digital rendering, and RepRap printing. All digital files are available under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license for educational use, with more objects found by searching "Ghosts in the Form of Gifts." The former Museum Building on Buckle St now houses Massey University's College of Creative Arts.
