Giant Pencil Lamp
prusaprinters
I had the idea to make a big pencil, but wanted to make it a bit more practical, so I worked out how to turn it into a lamp! The lamp cord itself is used as part of the sculpture as a whole by becoming the line drawn by the pencil on the floor.PrintingEach piece was printed at 0.2mm layer height on a Bambu Labs P1S. The only piece that requires supports is the MetalEraserHolder, everything else can be printed support free. The tip was printed with black TPU to provide a bit of grip for the model. Print with the large flat side on the print bed.The wood section was printed with wood infused PLA to make it a bit more authentic. Print with the small side on the print bed.The main body segmetns were printed with Overture matte yellow PLA. Print with the flat base on the print bed.The MetalEraserHolder was printed with Amazon Basics Silk Silver PLA. Print with the wider rim on the print bed. Requires supports. The Eraser and EraserBase was printed in ESun Pastel Pink Matte PLA. The Eraser model is setup to print upside down, with the flat top facing the build plate. The walls are intentionally thin to allow light to pass through nicely without requiring infill or vase mode.AssemblyThe main body is keyed to make it a bit easier to line up each piece with each other. The body can just be glued together with super glue. The wood, tip and pencil body 1 sections need to be lined up and glued, but it wasn’t too tricky to do this. The MetalEraserHolder just screws on to the top of the main pencil assembly and can be removed later for lamp maintenence. The EraserBase screws into the MetalEraserHolder and the Eraser screws onto the EraserBase, making all the assembly quite quick.Lighting ComponentsI used the following for the actual lamp fitting:5 meters of PVC flex cable10mm edison screw lamp fitting1 plug topThe lamp fitting part simply glues in to the EraserBase after its been wired together. The flex cable is fed through the middle of the pencil body and out through the bottom of the pencil tip through a cutout on the side.
