Then I drew inspiration from The 3D Printing Nerd to make it life-size! Modeling took about three hours to complete. The design is broken down into manageable parts: the main sphere in two pieces with the eye on one side and a half-sphere for the back. There are also two magnets with a magnet pin, allowing them to rotate freely in their sockets for better accuracy. Three screws fit neatly into corresponding holes. This model can be easily scaled up or down. I printed the smaller version by scaling down the big one. The larger Magnemite was printed on my Robo3D with PLA filament and took 40 hours to complete. The smaller one was printed on my Da Vinci 1.0 Pro using ABS and took about 14 hours. My wife helped me finish the models, but she did all the work on the bigger one, which turned out beautifully. I'll be posting videos soon showing the entire process from start to finish.
