Giant Lego Flame Lamp
thingiverse
This is a massive model of a LEGO-style flame atop a 1x1 cone base. I'm unable to recall the exact scale that ultimately resulted from this project, as it started over a year ago and only recently saw completion on the base itself. Despite some calculations, the overall combined height of both the flame and cone now measures a full 19 inches. The delicate acrylic shape that makes up the 7/32" laser cut parts originated at McMaster-Carr. Initially, plans had called for crafting special lighting to fit within the cone piece, along with several other components made by way of laser cutting and designed to nest together snugly there. With some extra planning added into the design phase itself, space was set aside in the base's lower region specifically to route power supply wires from elsewhere. No serious efforts were taken towards finalizing lighting however; this photograph currently showcases the use of an LED automobile turn signal for providing the illumination you see here at present. The illumination strength was nowhere near what had been anticipated most likely due to factors including, though certainly not limited to, its unaimed position directly upward – such misalignment further compounded issues associated with an irregular illumination spread throughout the shape in question as seen on that flame, particularly those edge sections which would benefit greatly from some strategic fine grit sandpaper work aimed specifically at redistributing light intensity across all exposed surfaces there and thus provide much more consistent, satisfying results to our project overall.
