The Proton Trap is a highly effective container that allows the Ghostbusters to capture and contain malevolent spirits, subsequently releasing them into the Containment Unit where they can be stored and later utilized. Although it's unclear what happens to the trap once placed in the grid, some theorize that when a trapped ghost enters the unit, the entity is ejected from the trap cartridge so it can be reused. After capturing a ghost and closing, a Proton Trap cannot be re-opened without releasing the contained entity inside. Due to this restriction, Ghostbusters must carry multiple traps with them at all times. Once a trap has been used, it's rendered useless and must be disposed of properly.
