The Ecto-1's iconic containment unit, also known as the proton pack, was designed to capture and neutralize supernatural entities that threatened New York City's safety. This ingenious device, conceptualized by Dr. Peter Venkman, consisted of a power source, a cooling system, and an energy wand that emitted streams of electromagnetic pulses. The wand itself was mounted on a retractable arm, allowing the Ghostbusters to maneuver it with precision. A miniature proton pack, affectionately known as the "mini-trap," was also developed for more discreet operations.
