Ghost trap is a sealed container that allows the Ghostbusters to transport spirits to the Containment Unit where they are released into the grid. What happens to the trap once placed inside the grid remains unclear though some theorize that when a captured ghost is put into the Containment Unit the entity is pumped out of the trap cartridge so it can be reused. A ghost trap cannot be re-opened without releasing the contained spirit once it has captured one and closed. This is why the Ghostbusters must carry several traps with them at all times. They must discard a used trap and replace it with another.
