Ghost Recon Wall Art - Easy Filament Swap
thingiverse
I designed this Ghost Recon wall art to be an easy filament swap, and it made for a great Christmas present to a fan of the games. If you've never done a filament swap before, this is a great way to get into it. If you've done them before, this will be a breeze. Below I've outlined the Cura settings I used to successfully print this. You may need to edit this based on your own setup, but hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to do: Layer height: .20mm Walls: 3 Top & Bottom: 4 layers Infill: 8% tri-hex pattern Material: PLA+, 208F hotend, 60F bed Support: None Now, for the filament swap settings: -In Cura, go to Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code -Add a Filament Change from the list -Ensure it's set based on layer number, not height -Use Layer 6 for the change -Leave the rest of the settings as default For a little extra security, you can also insert a Pause command prior to the filament swap, so that the extruder moves away from the print. When the printer gets to the swap, simply change your filament out for your secondary color and then use the prompt to continue. It's also advisable to push some extra filament through first, to ensure that the new color doesn't come out with smears of the old color. I used white PLA+ for the back, and black PLA+ for the art itself. That's about it. I advise using the exact same brand and type of filaments, just different colors. This ensures you don't need to worry about changing temps or other settings. Lastly, this is mostly meant to give you ideas - I made this in Tinkercad in about 10 minutes. You can do this with any image you want - have fun and experiment. PS: For the frame, I simply cut out some black construction paper to fit a 9" x 9" shadow box, and then cut a rectangle out slightly smaller than the print itself and mounted the print inside of it. Then I just ran a cheap RGB LED strip around the back. Cool effect for cheap :) PPS: I obviously don't own the art copyright itself, I used a publicly available image for this private work of fan-art.
