I'm married to a creative person, and I'm still learning about 3D printing. For under $200, you can get a decent printer that works right out of the box - that was all it took to convince me. My wife was looking for Halloween-shaped cookie cutters for her blog post and said she wished they made emoji cookie cutters. After thinking about it for a minute, I figured this would be an ideal beginner design project. Searching YouTube turned up tons of great tutorials on designing cookie cutters, so the rest is history.
