Ghost Cube

This is a ghost cube designed for my personal enjoyment, and I am excited about how it turned out. The mechanism is the same as an old Rubik's Cube, simple enough that most printers should be able to print it. I made things easier by purchasing the hardware and core separately, which helps with assembly. Here are some details about the hardware: http://thecubicle.us/dayan-5755mm-hardware-p-502.html Core files can also be found here: http://thecubicle.us/dayan-5755mm-core-p-182.html I created this puzzle in Inventor, and I included all my files if you'd like to modify or remix the design. While my puzzle may not be identical to an original Ghost Cube, it has the same fundamental principle behind its design. Here are some printer settings: My 3D printer was a Q3D Two Up, which made printing very convenient. Rafts were not needed for most pieces but could still be used if desired; I also set Supports to Yes and Resolution to .2mm to ensure that all parts fit together smoothly. If you'd like, I included some assembly tips: After removing any loose debris from the printer core, make sure there's nothing stuck in the holes of the bases. A small screwdriver worked well for this, but any object with a fine tip should also do. Assembling the ghost cube involves placing each unique part where it goes according to an STL file or the original assembly from Inventor, much like how you would build a standard Rubik's Cube. The supports can be printed if needed - most pieces can still fit together without them. If you're interested in adding some visual flair, printing stickers is an option as well. To create custom designs for the shapes of these stickers, you'll need to either download Inventor or the STL file for a good look at what's involved. In any case, it was really enjoyable creating and playing with this Ghost Cube - and I hope you enjoy solving it! Don't worry about getting frustrated - it happens! You're free to mix things up whenever you want. This ghost cube was built on top of an original 3x3x3 base design that I created first before adapting it into its final form as a ghost cube puzzle, incorporating the outer parts of both to give it a one-of-a-kind appearance and mechanics.
