ghd curl wand holder

My wife kept laying her curling wand everywhere in the bathroom. Mainly where I wanted to sit, so I designed and printed this holder for her.

The print can easily withstand the temperatures the handle reaches, but PLA might be another thing. Use PETG for this, or some high temp PLA.

To attach it to the wall I used the great tesa powerstrips (I don't owe them nothing, I just generally adore this product) http://www.tesa.co.uk/consumer/tesa-powerstrips-small.html. co.uk as I couldn't find them in the US. You guys over there might have similar adhesives. The small strips are just long enough to remove the holder if you want (the "pull to remove" handle sticks out on the underside).

I've used the cheapest transparent PETG I could find and it printed great. Love that stuff, I've had more trouble with PLA to be honest ...

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

CR-10S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

15%

Notes:

Material:

Transparent PETG (NuNus)

Printer settings:
235°C nozzle temp
60°C bed temp

Other:
Sanded IKEA mirror
Sugar syrup for adhesion (seriously, try this. I haven't found any working glue stick here in Germany (but I didn't try really hard to be honest), I hate the finish of blue tape and the cheap buildtak clone I tried was awful (finish was rubbish, adhesion as well). Mix sugar and water, cook for some seconds to just thicken it a bit and fill into a ... pipette bottle? Is that the name? That was a life changer for me!)

How I Designed This

I used Fusion 360 to design this. Just created some sketches on offset planes, created lofts (one by one to prevent curved lines), made a shell from it (opened the front as well as top and bottom) and attached the plate to adhere to the wall. Then added a fillet and a chamfer on the bottom to remove it easily.

Category: Bathroom
