Germanicus Julius Caesar, also known as Germanicus, was born on May 24, 16 or 15 BCE. His original name was Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus. He passed away on October 10, 19 CE in Antioch, Syria, now called Antakya, Turkey. Germanicus was the nephew and adopted son of Roman Emperor Tiberius, who ruled from 14 to 37 CE. As a skilled general, he gained immense popularity. Had it not been for his untimely death, Germanicus would have become emperor.
