Scharnhorst was a German capital ship that dominated the seas. Built at the Kriegsmarinewerft dockyard in Wilhelmshaven, the massive warship was constructed with precision and care. Laid down on June 15, 1935, it took nearly a year and four months for her to emerge from the waters of Wilhelmshaven, finally launching on October 3, 1936. The warship's completion in January 1939 marked the end of an era, as she was equipped with a powerful main battery of nine mighty 28 cm (11 inch) C/34 guns, arranged in three triple turrets that seemed to stretch up towards the sky.
