The 3.7 cm SK C30 served as the primary 37 mm (1.5 inch) anti-aircraft gun for the German Kriegsmarine throughout World War II. Its position was later taken over by the fully automatic 3.7 cm FlaK 43, which arrived towards the end of the war. As a single-shot anti-aircraft gun, the C30 had to be loaded individually per round, drastically limiting its effective rate of fire to just 30 rounds per minute. In stark contrast, its contemporary, the Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft gun, boasted an impressive firing speed of up to 120 rounds per minute. Notably, the SK C30's muzzle velocity was significantly higher (approximately 25%), allowing for more precise aiming due to reduced targeting complexities. A specialized version of the SK C30U was engineered for use aboard submarines by the German military.
