Lord Kinnaird was a highly cultured and versatile individual who made significant contributions as an agricultural reformer and advocate for railway development in central Scotland. He was also a pioneering amateur photographer, known for his expertise in capturing images. At Rossie Priory, his seat, Kinnaird showcased an impressive collection of antiquities acquired during his extensive archaeological excavations near Rome. The Kinnaird family's patronage of Brodie, a renowned British portrait sculptor of the mid-nineteenth century, likely began with this bust, created in the year he was elected as a Royal Scottish Academician.
