Geometry: Icosahedron corner connectors for wooden skewers
thingiverse
This corner connectors join together inexpensive wooden skewers (barbecue sticks) into one of the Platonic solids: Icosahedron (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_solid). This is an affordable way to create various forms for educational purposes, possibly in schools. The original design can be viewed at http://a360.co/2ndlxqG. There are 2 variants with 3.5 and 3.2mm holes (approximately 1/8"), fitting most common wooden skewers on the market. We can create different dimensions if needed. Together with my 8-year-old daughter Emma, we're embarking on a journey to learn about geometry, 3D designing, and printing. Playing around with these sticks to create various geometric shapes led us to think it would be great to have a way of connecting them. This presented an excellent opportunity for us to learn more about designing or printing. We discovered that printing very small items can be challenging without powerful part cooling. Our recommendation is to print all 12 corners at once. We're planning to design connectors for additional geometric forms and donate some to the local school for educational purposes. Others may find this useful for learning or ornamental purposes. We plan to create an Icosahedron chandelier. **EDIT:** We've also added a Dodecahedron to our collection https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2774287
