Geometric WiFi-Controlled RGB Light (Triangle Edition!)
thingiverse
After creating 2D wall art on my 3D printer (a clever move) I decided it would be even cooler if I could add some RGB LEDs behind the art to make it truly shine - and while I was at it, why not make the LEDs WiFi controllable?!? I went ahead with a general idea of what I wanted & let the rest fall into place as I designed the CAD file. I think it turned out really cool and I definitely want to try it with some different shapes in the future! What you'll need to create this: 1. A 3D printer with at least a 300x300 build plate - you could cut this up into smaller pieces if needed, but it'll look its best if printed in one piece. Or, cut it up into smaller pieces and sand/paint/finish/etc after gluing to get rid of the glue seams. Your choice! 2. RGB LED Strips & power supply - I used ones that have a black PCB and the clear silicone layer on top to help disperse the light. Example: https://www.amazon.com/SUPERNIGHT-16-4ft-Waterproof-Changing-Lights/dp/B076VG955L 3. RGB LED Strip controller - I used a generic "Magic Home" LED controller from Aliexpress. However, I always flash ESPHome & link them with Home Assistant so that I can run them without a potentially sketchy 3rd party app. Not entirely necessary, but certainly recommended. Example (you can get these way cheaper directly from China): https://www.amazon.com/LED-Controller-WIFI-Wireless-Smartphone/dp/B0746654D5 NOTE: You'll have to take the PCB for the controller out of the case & pull the power cable off of it to install it into the frame. Not a big deal considering you'll have to be able to solder the sections of RGB LED strips together anyways, but just a heads up. 4. White paper (for the backing) - I used glossy photo paper but semi gloss or matte would certainly work too. You could even omit this entirely, but I wanted a "better" glow than I was initially getting with LEDs just reflecting off of my wall, and the paper backing helps provide that.
