Geological structure contours
sketchfab
This model brings to life the concept of structure contours in geology through a three-dimensional representation. The green surface vividly depicts a real-world topographic surface, whereas the pink surface illustrates a flat plane of a dipping geological surface. Green lines serve as topographic contours that define the shape of the landform, while pink lines represent structure contours of the dipping surface. Notably, both types of contours have an identical contour interval of 100 metres. It's worth noting that since the geological surface is perfectly flat and not curved, structure contours always appear as straight lines that are parallel and equidistant from each other horizontally. The point where each structure contour intersects its topographic equivalent marks the location where the geological surface is exposed or "outcrops." In this context, the blue line signifies the path of outcrop for the geological surface.
