Ames SpaceShop spearheads Clementine Mission. Geographos asteroid was discovered in September 1951 through a National Geographic Society-funded sky survey. Most asteroids that cross Earth's orbit are believed to be fragments resulting from collisions between main belt asteroids near Mars and Jupiter, which are then perturbed into new orbits intersecting with Earth.
