My Toyota comes equipped with a petrol/gas cap tether that prevents the cap from being dropped or forgotten - an unfortunate absence on my piece of junk Honda CRV, one of several hundred poor design choices in its 2000 model. Anyway, it finally got under my skin one too many times, so I took matters into my own hands and came up with a solution. It should fit most vehicles. I used a 300x3x5.125mm wire tie from ALDI to secure the cap, leaving the end clip off an identical wire tie to hold the rotating part in place. The fixed section was simply superglued to the old petrol cap, avoiding any potential damage to its ratchet mechanism by not drilling into it.
