Geocaching Hook for Biltema Caches

Geocaching Hook for Biltema Caches

I needed to deal with the frequent Biltema caches in our area, so we created our own setup to catch them. To get started, I bought an inexpensive 8m telescopic fishing rod online for just 12€. However, its top features a tiny eyelet that's not suitable for mounting a standard hook. I designed a dual-hook mechanism with a twist-lock system. Simply thread the eyelet through the slot until it reaches the end, rotate it 90 degrees, and then pull it back a few millimeters. The eyelet will lock into place in a secondary slot, securing the hook on the pole. For added security, you can also pass some wire or a paperclip through the small hole. Over the past weeks, I've tested the hook, and while it takes some practice due to the flexible fishing rod, it works flawlessly. The addition of a ball helps bring the loops more easily into the hook. As for the second hook, it was just an idea that I initially used - I'm glad I could find a use for it. UPDATE 04.08.2020: Unfortunately, my pole broke at its thinnest point. In response, I redesigned my hook with a new mounting mechanism to make it more versatile.
