The Geneva drive or Maltese cross is a gear system that converts continuous rotation into an intermittent rotary motion. A rotating drive wheel with a pin extends into a slot on the driven wheel, advancing it by one step at a time. The drive wheel also features a raised circular blocking disc that secures the driven wheel in place between each step.
