Geneva Drive Model

Geneva Drive Model

My pal Pete posted an animated GIF of a Geneva Drive, inspiring me to model and print this fascinating mechanism. A Geneva Drive converts continuous rotation into intermittent movement (like a clock's second hand). Check out this video for reference: http://youtu.be/HCnYnhws_cA. To print, start with the base, followed by each wheel separately or use the bothwheels file. Place the wheel with the finger hole (wheel one) facing up and its counterpart (with spikes) upside down. Give it a spin - the small wheel, turned by your finger, will make the large wheel move in steps!
