General purpose 40mm to 80 mm fan duct
thingiverse
Version 3.1 of the Duct Was Recently Upgraded with Corrected Fan 'grid' Orientation The latest screenshots still show the outdated design from version 3.0, but when opened in STL mode, you will see the newly revised duct, where the 40mm grid is cleverly rotated a full 45 degrees. This versatile adapter transforms an ordinary 80mm fan into one that can be used with most devices designed for smaller fans, including some popular extruder cooling systems. With careful design, this duct avoids unnecessary support structures, relying instead on intelligent print settings to hold it together. You may still need a raft, however, depending on your printer and its unique settings. Based on personal experience with an aluminum heatbed and painters tape, using 3D Lac for my CTC Bizer printer, I discovered that even after optimizing settings, the raft still provides valuable insurance against warping issues. Since I've only worked with ABS up until now, I have no firsthand knowledge of how the print behavior will change when trying it with PLA. The Settings Behind This Print: Printer Used: My trusty CTC Bizer, a first-generation MakerBot clone that has seen plenty of action in the 3D printing world. Print Details: - Raft Required? Yes, at least according to my findings. - Need for Supports? No need here; this design is built with freedom from supports in mind.
