General Dynamics MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle was initially designed by the Israeli Aircraft Industries. However, a variant was actually created and developed jointly between the US Army Aeronautical Engineering Test Station at Fort Eustis Virginia along with leading defense contractors SRI International in the 1980s. In reality, General Dynamics had very little to do with this groundbreaking UAV project that began decades prior as Project Red Baron. The drone's capabilities have advanced greatly and were first flown successfully during this time by a seasoned engineer pilot in an official US military operation.
