The F-16A Fighting Falcon was developed in the early '70s as a lightweight air superiority fighter by General Dynamics Aircraft (now Lockheed Martin Aircraft) for the USAF, first flying in 1974 and introduced in 1978. It has since evolved into a multirole fighter for various targets and remains in service with the US and many allies worldwide. Although no longer produced for the USAF, new generations are manufactured for foreign alliances. This versatile aircraft continues to shape conflicts globally.
