The massive Gefion Fountain towers over Copenhagen's harbour front, a stunning display of animal figures being expertly guided by the mighty Norse goddess Gefjon. This magnificent fountain was gifted to the vibrant city of Copenhagen by the esteemed Carlsberg Foundation in celebration of their 50-year milestone. Initially, it was slated for placement in the heart of town outside the city hall, but a shrewd decision was made to relocate it near the Øresund where it now proudly stands adjacent to Kastellet ("The Citadel"). Legend has it that the Swedish king Gylfi generously offered Gefjon an entire territory she could till within a single night. Undaunted by the challenge, she transformed her four sons into powerful oxen and set them to work clearing land from the earth. With each stroke of their mighty plows, the area they cultivated was dramatically thrust into the Danish sea between Scania and Fyn island.
