# Reverse Z-axis motor mounts __Update 170831: This mod is still a work in progress, as I've encountered some unwanted Z-backlash that I'm currently trying to track down. I suspect it's due to the aluminum-spring-couplers.__ This modification reverses the position of your z-axis motors, allowing gravity to lend its stabilizing influence instead of relying on the stock configuration where the weight of the x-axis amplifies the wobbliness. A related discussion can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Reprap/comments/1xflhl/z_axis_motors_above_or_below/ While there are many other excellent solutions available, some of them introduce backlash. This solution utilizes only stock parts and doesn't introduce any extra backlash. I highly recommend using the stock nuts if possible. Notably, this modification was surprisingly easy to assemble. Simply move your locknuts from the top of the smoothroods to the bottom, and the rest of the assembly should fall into place by itself. One important detail: you'll also need to update your firmware configuration and invert your Z-axis direction. If you're using Marlin, make the following change: //Configuration.h #define INVERT_Z_DIR true
