Geeetech I3X X Carriage Upgrade
thingiverse
Upgraded X carriage for the I3X. Mine is a Geeetech acrylic frame version, and it saves 75% weight compared to stock, which is the mod V4 design based on Beyondwind & riansolutions' remix. Things like 982921 and 1043124 have been incorporated into this upgraded X carriage. I've made a few significant improvements to this carriage. The printable Z height has increased by 20mm, with the extruder mounted higher just like in the stock carriage. Cable mounting points are also included for easier cable management. Additionally, I've built a mechanical end-stop trigger directly into the carriage if needed. You can use either 3 or 4 LM8UU bearings or 2 LML8UU bearings, depending on your preference. However, keep in mind that this upgraded X carriage now requires support to print. It's highly recommended that you use Cura 2.3 to slice and enable roof support and support everywhere. Also, make sure to print with the end-stop pointing up and rotate the model 45 degrees clockwise on the bed. Update: As of October 26th, modV3 now allows for the extruder motor to be mounted 15mm further towards the front of the machine if desired. This will give you edge-to-edge print volume (215 mm on the X axis), and it also provides more clearance for larger hotends. ModV4 includes all features from modV3 but only uses 3 LM8UU bearings, resulting in a smoother and lighter setup that weighs around 77g with 3 LM8UU bearings. This is a significant reduction from the stock weight of 300g. You can watch this upgraded X carriage in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0oJqCsKulA. Update: As of October 27th, a fan duct is now available. Update: Early version files have been removed as of November 1st. Update: A video has been added as of October 12th. Printer Settings: Printer: Geeetech I3X Rafts: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 50% Notes: Print in ABS for heat resistance, using a 0.4 nozzle with 0.2 layer height and 50% infill, with walls set to 1.2mm. The carriage is tricky to print, requiring careful support settings and a Brim. End-stop mount, belt lock, and fan duct printing require specific settings as well.
