Geeetech i3 pro b home position/endstop mod
thingiverse
I've noted with the Geeetech i3 pro b and similar that the home position is unusual, at least to me anyway. I'm used to my home position being platform to the front of printer, unlike the geeetech that sends it all the way to the back. This strikes me as very impractical given that you then need to reach through the printer to retrieve your part at end of print. It's awkward and, to be fair, probably a little dangerous if there's still heat lingering about the printer. Not to mention, it'd be a pain if you enclose the printer and need to stretch all the way into the back of the enclosure to get your finished print? There's also the fact that the X-axis rods could potentially strike a larger print at the end of a job as the Z lowers to home. The build platform is still slightly under the x-axis in stock home position. A simple way to set the printer so your home position is BUILD PLATFORM FULLY FORWARD and EXTRUDER FULLY LEFT without needing to touch firmware, software or reflash the controller is by making some physical changes. Along with re-positioning the endstop with this part design, you can swap the x & y axis stepper motor plugs going into the control board. Your X-axis becomes the front to back bed axis and the left to right extruder axis is now Y-axis. Reverse the wiring going into the Y-axis on the control board. The black, green, red, blue colors basically want to be flipped. Swap the x & y endstop plugs over going into the control board and reposition the X-endstop to the front of the printer in the new part. If done this way, your build platform will now home to the front of the printer instead of the back and the extruder will return to stock home as usual. Your prints WON'T be reversed. You WON'T need to touch any software config files, nor will you need to touch any firmware settings. This is purely a physical way of getting the front home position I've described without affecting the printer's ability to function. The same effect CAN be achieved through software/firmware settings yes (endstop would still need moving obviously), but that can be alot more involved and a little daunting for the newcomers to 3D printing that often chose the Prusa range as their first printer and have zero experience with Arduino use and altering config. codes. Both left and right variant design are included. The part is pretty snug fitting, so it doesn't shift about much, but a dab of hot glue or a bit of double-sided will secure it firmly. PS....Sorry about the "lined" parts shown in pictures; they were done before installing my anti-wobble design and are only really temp till I redo in Black lol.
