Human: Easy mountpoints are created to secure a Geeetech G2s printer inside an Ikea Bestå closet (http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/20245964/#/30245850). These components keep the G2s firmly in place within a closet, preventing movement during printing. This is crucial when printing at higher speeds (>100mm/s), as it easily causes print defects. The current setup includes a bottom mountpoint where the back foot slides into place and a top mount point that aligns with an existing hole on the top plate. The top mount connects two blocks using a large screw, providing horizontal stability and relief on the screw surface. The part that fits inside the printer is tapered to provide a snug fit without reducing the overall size. This design requires some modifications to the G2s. Most notably, the spool mount and extruders need to be removed from the top. One extruder can be mounted below the top plate, but a second might not fit due to space constraints. Design restrictions include: - Easy mounting and unmounting with no tools required - Preventing top plate movement at higher print speeds I initially planned to use OpenSCAD for this project, but as the details became more complex, I decided to learn Fusion360. Now, it's my go-to tool for modeling due to its ability to keep parametrised concepts while offering a much faster iteration velocity than OpenSCAD. It provides simple functions like camber that are difficult to recreate in OpenSCAD without thorough forethought or refactoring. Additionally, it allows extruding from 2D sketches and has a timeline that reapplies functions when constraints or parameters change. The best part is that Fusion360 is free for hobbyists.
