The Granville Brothers Aircraft-built Gee Bee Model Z was an American racing plane in the '30s, designed specifically to win the Thompson Trophy; it achieved this in 1931. However, tragedy struck when it crashed fatally during a world speed record attempt, branding the Gee Bee aircraft as dangerous.
