Gecko Fridge Magnet

Gecko Fridge Magnet

thingiverse

This is a remix of thing 1363148. The gecko has three magnet cavities that allow embedding 1, 2, or 3 magnets, depending on the necessary force required. The cavities were designed for 5/16 x 5/16 cylindrical Neodymium magnets available on eBay from many sellers (8mm x 8mm cylindrical magnets will also fit). To embed magnets, pause printing a few mm above magnet top (0.6mm base + 5/16 = about 8.6mm), then drop in magnets, push down with non-magnetic toothpick, just in case, and then drop a few drops of super glue, resuming printing. Hints: * Inserting three magnets alternate polarities to have them stay in place while dropping glue. Having all three magnets in same orientation makes them harder to manage. * Printing a few geckos allows using both right and left models for variety (mirrored by Y axis). * Dropping super glue below printing line prevents contaminating nozzle. * Using two magnets (leaving middle one empty) results in strong fridge magnet, stronger than most cheap fridge magnets bought at stores. * Printing with opaque PTEG (e.g. red) due to saturated color and shiny texture. * Infill level is not critical; 10% or 20% should suffice.
