Gearz: a board game
prusaprinters
This is a functional clone of the 1975 board game “The Power Game” (aka Track, also Turn). By moving one cog one place in turn, the object is to create a gear train that turns your opponent's master gear in the direction of the arrow purely by turning your master gear.NB: these pieces are not compatible with the original game, and cannot be used as spares/replacements.Print SettingsPrinter Brand:CrealityPrinter: Ender 3Rafts:NoSupports: NoResolution:0.3 mmInfill: 10 %Filament: Generic PLA various Notes You will need to print:one game board; one master/arrow gear piece plus seven plain gear pieces in one filament colour; one master/arrow gear piece plus seven plain gear pieces in a different filament colour.Total print time is around 8 hours at 100% scale.I'm aware that this is quite a big print, and might not fit your printer. If you want to try printing a scaled-down version, I've included a file gearz-board-test.stl that includes just two posts instead of the full 48. If you print this test piece plus two gear pieces at your chosen scale you can see if the pieces will mesh correctly. For example, at 50% on my Ender 3 the tiny (~11 mm) gears meshed but the tolerances were far too snug to allow them to turn easilyHow I Designed ThisI played this a couple of times as a kid in the 1970s. I don't remember much about the gameplay, but I do remember crafting huge geartrains and/or throwing game pieces at my opponent. A proto-engineer in larval/oik stage for sure.OpenSCAD source will be provided just as soon as I clean it up and work out how to get a single .scad file to produce the different parts on demand.
