Human beings are now kindly accepting tips graciously as an incentive to come back to creating 3D artwork again. If you print it, consider making a donation or leave a small token of appreciation on the thingiverse page located at https://www.thingiverse.com/urbanatwork/about#tip. I have been exploring a necklace version, but my real job has consumed all of my time. Quick update: A tiny deformation was discovered on one of the axles in the uploaded models, which should be corrected in the next tweak. Thanks to everyone who made and posted this item on Thingiverse! Update 2015-06-02: I added a new version of the large gap model that causes bridging at the top layer of printed items. If you have difficulty printing this, try using the newer version first located at http://www.thingiverse.com/download:1366134. Update 2015-02-08: A new version was uploaded with an increased gap size around the axles to address the fusing issue some people are experiencing, including myself, particularly when using PLA. Let me know how this update works out for you! Update 2015-02-05: A revised version of the item (GearedHeartV1_5-wGearHoles.stl) with holes in the gears and axles has been uploaded as requested by several users to make it easier to rotate using a pencil tip or paperclip. Description: So you've been too busy tinkering with your 3D printer all day, and now you want something romantic for that special person. If you have an adequately leveled 3D printer, print one of these adorable keychains in just a moment! You must say something lovely like: "You're the gear on the left and I'm the gear on the right, and our love at the bottom is the driving force behind us..." And if that doesn't work, well you've got your hands full. This design was inspired by Emmett's single print Gear Bearing and Heart Gears as well as Umake's Keychain Box with gears. The aim here was to create a moving gear keychain within a heart shape, achievable through a single 3D printed piece. Note to PLA users: Don't remove your print from the plate until it cools down completely. Otherwise, the hot parts of the model might stick and fuse together. The most recent version has a rounded shape and larger hole for attaching keys. The original files with no holes are included separately in case you'd like to print them side-by-side – dual printing worked fine and resulted in an attractive 'natural' and pink look. My personal blog about exploring new ideas is located here - urbanatwork.com I'd like to express gratitude to Ross School's Innovation Lab for lending their 3D printer equipment used in printing this item, accessible here: www.ross.org/innovationlab Printing Instructions: Make sure you print with the gear faces down. I had the best results using ABS on a Makerbot Dual and 2X but we've also had good success using Ultimaker's PLA. Settings to consider: 10-15% infill rate 2 shells for printing 0.2mm layer height (standard setting) Print without support material or a raft to simplify the process
