Geared B'Struder 5:1
thingiverse
9/10/2016 I'm unsure of proper etiquette for updating things, so I'm just going to toss up a changelog and the new files up here. Removing the square nut gear (it's useless) Adding a large shaft driven gear Tweaking the mount plate (matched the bearings) Adding a high clearance B-struder arm The new shaft driven gear is center-able for all those printers out there that struggle to print a tight fitting shaft bore. The shaft setup handily outperforms a M5 hex bolt setup, I've been getting excellent performance for over a month. New parts list: 4x M3 socket head bolts (5mm-7mm) 2x 625ZZ bearings 1x MK8 hob gear 1x 5mm shaft (50mm minimum) or 1x M5 hex bolt (40mm minimum) 2x-4x M5 washers (spacers) 3x M3 nuts 3x M3 7mm bolts If your printer rocks, you only need 1 M3 nut and 1 M3 7mm bolt. Old stuff: The B-struder is awesome. Full credit to tempo502(http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:711401). I like gears and I like torque. My extruder stepper has neither. To solve the problem, I slapped a slip optimized 5:1 gear drive onto a B-struder. I can't speak to gear longevity, as performance was all I cared about. I used PETG. You'll need the B-struder arm (go pick one of tempo502's) and its hardware: A 16x5x5mm bearing A 10x4x5mm bearing 4 8-10mm M3 machine screws 4 M3 washers 1 35-50mm M5 bolt MK8 hob gear 3-5 M5 washers (used as spacers for hob placement, bearing clearance, and spacing the large gear from the mount plate) M5 hex or square nut I reserve the right to change anything at will. Edit: Added a M5 hex bolt version, as most people don't have hundreds of mildly useless square nuts lying around. Print Settings: Printer: A one-off B-bot (D-bot like printer) Rafts: Doesn't matter Supports: Yes Resolution: .3 Infill: 50-70% Notes: 50% for the plate 70% for the gears Good idea to support the nut hole for the large gear; it's easy to pull off with needle-nose pliers.
