Gear Ornament for Christmas String Lights
thingiverse
Modified Gear Ornament, altered for easy insertion of string light bulbs to enhance lighting. Once constructed, if a web forms inside the square, use a knife to make diagonal cuts from corner to opposite corner with care. Most tree lights can be gently pushed into place to illuminate the ornament from within. Print Settings: Printer: MendelMax 2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.4 Infill: None Notes: Vase mode, with two bottom layers. I used clear ABS from 3DXTech. A 0.6mm nozzle was employed, with the slicer set to produce a 0.72mm wide bead width. A 0.5mm layer height may yield better results too. 0.4mm nozzles work well with 0.3mm layers. How I Designed This I took the Gear Ornament and added a square hole in the bottom to prevent fracture spreading. The base was also tapered for aesthetic purposes. TinkerCAD was used due to its quick learning curve.
