Gear for mini speedometer
thingiverse
This speedometer speed adapter is specifically designed for the 1999 Mini Sportpack MPI, but may also work with other models from 1959-2000. After replacing the differential and experiencing a different ratio, resulting in increased acceleration and decreased top speed, the user had to adjust the rotating speedometer cable on the engine side. Finding this particular adapter proved challenging, as the user tried several options without success. To correct the speed display, they compared their GPS readings at 50 km/h (which showed a 20% over-reading) and adjusted the cable rotation with a factor of 1.2. Once installed, the adapter ensures accurate speed measurement when placed behind the counter. For assembly, print the parts, test gears for smooth operation without jolts using PLA material, no support needed. Apply generous grease, secure with three countersunk M3 screws and nuts. The tip (bar) works best in nylon, as PLA broke and Bendlay frayed. File it to fit the gear and meter snugly. Secure the gear housing, ensuring the rotating cable connects directly for optimal alignment. There is ample space behind the counter. Although the adapter created a slight noise during rotation, it was minimal compared to the engine's beautiful sound.
