Gear for ghagen01's Ultimaker extruder update
thingiverse
Introducing a non-threaded shaft extruder gear for Ultimaker printers, designed by ghagen01 as an update rather than a derivative. This accessory is necessary if your 50materialwheel part lacks threading on its shaft, such as when printed in steel via Shapeways. The user has uploaded the metal parts to Shapeways. V2 boasts increased strength and better nut hole design, while V3 offers enhanced resistance around M3 nuts to prevent cracking. Assembly instructions include printing the gear, inserting two M3 nuts and bolts, pushing it onto the 50materialwheel shaft with washers if needed, securing the bolts gently, reattaching the extruder motor with the original small gear, and adjusting E_STEPS_PER_MM in the firmware. The OpenSCAD model utilizes the teardrop module from MCAD library, but includes a copy of it. A separate "large_gear.dxf" file is required for the gear profile, which can be found on Martijn's Ultimaker laser-cut sources on Thingiverse. Remember not to overtighten the bolts as this is plastic.
