Gear Controlled Steering System
grabcad
This steering system, featuring eight gears with specific meshing sequences, is connected to a D.C. motor shaft via a central gear. Each wheel is linked to an individual motor using a wheel/motor holder and motor holder for seamless 360-degree rotation. The central gear controls direction of rotation while other gears transfer motion to each wheel. D.C. motors power the wheels. The design, based on purchased plastic gears (No. teeth: 60, addendum circle diameter: 65mm, base circle diameter: 57mm, de-dendum circle diameter: 60mm, pitch: 1mm), has a module m = d/z = 65/60 = 1.0416 and circular pitch of 25mm, made from plastic. It includes eight gears (seven for power transfer from the main gear to each wheel). Parts are designed based on market availability, with wheels featuring a diameter of 64mm and a base diameter of 230mm squared.
