For a robust OpenSCAD editor without WINE reliance, opt for Geany. Follow these steps to set it up: 1) Copy filetypes.OpenSCAD.conf to Geany's directory (e.g., /usr/share/geany or C:/Program Files/Geany/data in Ubuntu and Windows, respectively). 2) Replace or edit filetype_extensions.conf with the provided lines. 3) Open a new .scad file in Geany, then enable Automatic Reload and Compile in Design menu. Hide editor via View menu. 4) Right-click your .scad file to open it with Geany while keeping OpenSCAD running. 5) Customize auto completion, indentation, and display preferences from Edit > Preferences. 6) Arrange both OpenSCAD and Geany for easy viewing. 7) Enjoy syntax highlighting and advanced text editing features in Geany as you edit your .scad files. Each save will trigger an automatic recompile by OpenSCAD.
