GD Mk.3 outer rollbar
thingiverse
The outer roll bar leg on the Mk. 3 Gardner Douglas GD427 curves outward in a precise arc. I crafted this jig to measure that curve at exactly 20 points along its circumference, ensuring accurate readings. Additionally, I drilled 20 holes further inward to gather even more data. Attached is an ASCII points file containing x, y, and z coordinates - the highest point on the bodywork corresponds to the lowest value of 3.2mm. Loaded into a CAD program as a point cloud, a surface can be generated which can then be used to cut a cylinder with precision, creating a perfectly fitted escutcheon.
