A valve manages, channels or oversees flow within fluids (encompassing gases, liquids, solidified mixtures or slurries) via opening, closing or partially obstructing passageways. Valves are technically categorized as valve fittings, but often discussed independently. In an open valve, pressure propels fluid from high to low areas; the term's origin derives from Latin 'valva', a door part, itself stemming from 'volvere', meaning 'to turn, roll'.
