Gayles Moor C11 (2008)
sketchfab
Carved outcrop located near Richmond in North Yorkshire's Gayles Moor / Feldom Ranges area, situated towards the southern edge of a small plantation adjacent to Hill 99. One of over a hundred carvings found within extensive Ministry of Defence firing ranges, this particular area features unique motifs on its north sloping face. Two cups with elongated "keyhole" designs and several other cups can be seen in this striking outcrop. Featured in the 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale' as C11, this carving was later included in the 2008 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art in the North Dales' as FR8a. Historic England has designated this site with scheduling, making it accessible at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1014344. Currently, there is no record of this area on the ERA database, as it hasn't been documented by an affiliated project yet. A 3D model of this outcrop was created in September 2019 using a single stereo pair captured by Dave Tuck in May 2008. The image was taken with an 8mp Canon 350D camera.
