This was a question that had been on my mind for some time. Could a 3D filament print grippers matching Gatorade bottle-tops? The answer, quite simply, is yes! It took some experimentation to dial in the right numbers, but I finally got it working smoothly with my 3D Systems Cube3 printer. The splines have a gentle taper to them, which provides a welcome degree of variability. Feel free to scale up or down as needed if the fit isn't quite right for you. For anyone struggling with physical limitations that make it tough to open Gatorade bottles, I highly recommend printing these grippers and giving yourself some extra leverage. Each cap has 120 splines, so I opted to grab onto just half of them - a great spot to attach a keychain or carabiner for camping excursions. You don't need super strong prints to get the job done either. A clever internal grid void adds extra strength exactly where it's needed. I've been printing with PLA so far, but I'm eager to try out ABS and PETG in the future as well.
